Gottlieb Pinball Classics (Wii): COMPLETED!

Yes, I know Pinball is generally a high-score based genre of gaming, but Gottlieb Pinball Classics does have a single player Tournament Mode, which is essentially a set of levels. So I’ve taken this as a “story mode” or something, and after many attempts this week, I’ve finished it. There’s a bug in the game though – I’m sure of it. The “points” you gain from each table when qualified and completed are generally in the range of 1-10. For …

Gottlieb Pinball Classics (Wii)

Oh shush. Just because I already have 65453435674346 unplayed games doesn’t mean I can’t buy another one, right? Right? So I got this this morning. At first I was confused that a game requiring just three buttons necessitates both the Wii remote and the nunchuk. That’s not a problem, it just seemed a bit odd. Anyway, so I’ve played through Challenge Mode a fair bit, unlocking several tables, but getting stuck on the Tee’d Off table. I’ve also ploughed most …

Magician Lord (Wii): COMPLETED!

Rubbish. Worst game ever? At this moment, it feels like it. I know it isn’t, because I’ve played worse, but it must be close. Magician Lord is a terrible excuse for a platform shooter, where your poorly animated wizard blindly stumbles around badly designed mazey levels looking for the end boss (who is usually in the last place left to look in), whilst trying to shoot or avoid rubbish looking baddies with three frames of animation each, but failing to …

Burning Fight (Wii): COMPLETED!

SNK’s not-a-clone-of-Final-Fight is, amazingly, a clone of Final Fight. Perhaps Streets of Rage instead. Or maybe both. Sadly, it’s not as good as either of these, despite the lovely big sprites. There’s nothing specifically wrong with it, and I suspect that most of the issues are just down to “that’s how things used to be” with regards to side scrolling beat-em-ups, but it did suffer from the SuckySuck(TM) Bit From Hell where all the bosses were not only lined up …

Metal Slug (Wii): COMPLETED!

I had a bit of a spending spree in town today, and bought 6 Wii games. One of which was SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, and on that (amongst other things) was Metal Slug. Lovely, lovely Metal Slug. Being the original, of course, it’s nowhere near as funny (or outright silly) as the later games – no aliens or zombies here. It was also a lot easier than I remember the series being too, because although I used a few …

Knights of the Round (Vita): COMPLETED

Or technically, PSP, as it’s part of the PSP Capcom Classics compilation. Although technically technically it’s an arcade game. And one I thought I’d played before, but it seems not. It’s basically Golden Axe only set in Arthurian legend times. And your character (I was Arthur) levels up, giving you supposedly more powerful attacks (negated by more powerful colour swapped foes) but ever more impressive looking armour. It was fun, although I missed being able to dash left and right …
